Watermelon Basket With Fruits And Apple Carvings

The watermelon basket and the apples were made for Taisia, a 5 year old girl, to her birthday party.

The watermelon basket is filled with grapes, mandarins, kiwi, and decorated with apple flowers. There are flowers of zig-zag cut oranges around the basket.

And none of my displays go without carved apples. Here are cute characters of Disney world.

Long Fruit Gift Baskets

My new fruit gifts arranged in long wire baskets. Assorted fruits with floral décor look so adorable.

The fruit baskets were designed for a special client of mine, she has inspired me to create 'other' things.

If you ask me to choose a favorite basket it is the pomegranates and red apples arrangements.

Wedding Fruit Basket

The fruit basket with watermelon was designed to be a wedding decoration. Estrella and 5 rose medallions carved on watermelon, a pair of white swans of daikon and delicious fruits surrounded by clouds of Gypsophila flowers.

Gangster Theme Wedding Decoration

Chicago Gangster theme wedding, August 2014

The event was decorated with two fruit displays.

The first photo is a large fruit platter with a beautiful arc of fruits and flowers carved out of vegetables. A watermelon has a gangster couple image carved in it's skin.

The second fruit display went to a head table and it was a fruit basket. To add a gangster detail I carved bullet holes in the watermelon and set Ace four of a kind on top. The playing cards are carved of red apple and egg plant.

It's Going To Be A Crafty Year

How are you doing, my friends?

Do you have a feeling it's going to be a special year?

I have not blogged in January, so you could think I had nothing to write about.

Actually I started this year working. I did fruit displays for weddings and babyshowers. Below I share the top displays made in January.

I take advantage of having a massive portfolio. Together with my clients we combine details of the different displays to create a new one. For instance, I have a sample fruit plate for babyshower, and just change watermelon image and cute fruit sculptures according to client's likes. Tell the truth, this approach made me lazy because I don't create new things.

Maybe this method in not bad for making money, but certainly it's not good for an artist, what I consider myself to be.

I have a desire to create different things in the year 2014.

Other thing that took my time in January was moving to a new apartment, my OWN home.

I dived into organizing a cozy space there. I have some ideas about decorating the room like making a frame collage for my paintings, pillows and so on.

So it is going to be a crafty year!

Tasty fruits arranged in a metal fruit basket, and decorated with watermelon carving display.

This arrangement is made for 55 years bithday of a man who runs a construction company. His colleagues asked for a beautiful display to present to the boss. I inquired into his likes and got that he loves pomegranates, kiwi and... construction.

Using this info I built the double-deck fruit arrangement.

Fruit basket:

pomegranates,

apples,

cherry,

kiwi,

apricot.

Decoration:

palm leaves,

roses with curved leaves, carved out of carrot and daikon radish,

watermelon carving.

Fruit Basket and Watermelon Drama

Sometime it happens. You can't forecast the situation untill you start carving a watermelon.

Early morning I have been carving a watermelon for a fruit basket. I was about to finish it when I found out that the design ruined down. The watermelon was hollow inside. There was a hole in place of the flower! Terrible sigh!

The most terrible thing was the time limitation. The basket had to be done in a couple of hours. The watermelon was the main part of the display! I was about to panic.

I had nothing to do but buying a new one. I went to 24 hours food store and... got stressed again. No watermelons! No one! My broken watermelon seemed to be the last watermelon that day.

"Ok, no tears" I said to myself. I grabbed a proper melon and run to carve it.

The final display looked pale with the melon. I added red fruits for the color balance.

That was the first time I totally spoiled a carving work. Frankly speaking I was not ready for that.

Melon Basket With Leaf Pattern

In my carving class I have a lesson on crarving a leaf from a cucumber using carving tools.
The leaf pattern is built on contrast and can be carved on any dark skin.
I did it in melon, the handle of the melon basket is decorated with the leaf pattern.
