Watermelon Carving and Vegetable Flowers

>>  6/05/2013

The photo shows how I carved an inscription in a small watermelon.

First, I carved the inscription in a green skin.
After peeling, I carved the waves in red flesh of the watermelon.
Then, the roses around the inscription.
And finished the design with the side elements.

The watermelon was in a small size, so I carved small flowers of daikon and carrot. To get the flowers of the same size, I picked a thin daikon and the most thick carrot. Can you imagine my shopping process? :) I can be a very picky shopper when it comes to carving purpose. I am sure you do the same!

The miniature flowers were carved for no purpose, just for practice. I think they can make a nice garnishe for a salad.

Easter Dinner

>>  4/17/2012

You might  heard that Russian Easter was celebrated on the 15th of April, the last Sunday. I have posted some pictures of our Easter food at my Facebook page. Today I'd like to give more details about it.

The main Easter food in Russia is Kulich or Easter cake. Kulich is a pastry with raisins. The cake on the picture below is not my baking. I bought it at a shop. Mine was the decorative part. Several months ago I purchased a special plate to display Easter food. The plate has cells for eggs which help to arrange them nicely around the plate. I have a few ideas of using this plate in a routine life.
By the way have you seen my Food Wonder Tree? :))

Kulich and easter eggs

Roasted chicken garnished with carrot flowers. I used a carrot curler to do the flowers.

Apply some salt and spicies onto a chicken skin and inside the chicken and leave for 2-3 hours. Set a chicken in a roaster and bake in a middle fire for 2 hours.

I recieved a photo from my friends with thier Esater cooking. They had a lot of baking (click the photo for a closer look):

Halloween Disney Garnish From Carrot

>>  10/27/2011

Look at what I bought in Tokyo Disney Land. This is a Mickey Lantern keychain.

There are a chicken fry with soft dough (my chicken tempura:)) and pumpkin salad on the picture above. For the salad I used the pumpkin I practiced the thai design in. I never throw away carving waste and my carved fruit and vegetables. I bake and fry them or store in a fridge for the future cooking.

Pumpkin salad ingredients:
radish,
cucumber,
raw pumpkin,
vegetable oil
salt

Create n Carve - Fruit and Vegetable Round-Up, September 2011

>>  9/26/2011

I am excited to announce the entries for Create n Carve ~ Fruit and Vegetable Event, September 2011. I would like to say THANKS to all participants. Thank you for your interest, your support, creativity and willing to share your food crafts!

A special thanks to Karla Baumhover, a president of TempleOfThai for promoting the Event on Facebook pages.

I make the Round-Up post today because I will be out for a short trip to Japan. I am going to visit a big Carving Contest in Tokyo and learn carving art from the japanese teachers (read the trip report here). I will stay away of my blog from Sep 29 to Oct 6.

There are a few days left till the end of September. So you still have a chance to send me your fruit and vegetable crafts. I will add them to this page upon my arrival on the 6th of October, 2011. I accept any level  projects from beginers and advnaced artists. To learn something new visit my Fruit and Vegetable Carving Instructions and pick up a good knife.
