Persimmon Rose Garnish - Fruit Carving Art

>>  10/04/2020

Persimmon is "food of gods", has come from Orientral world. Persimmon is Japan's national fruit and that's where it originated. Persimmons are red-brown or orange fruits that grow on trees like plums and look like tomato.

This is what you learn about persimon from the net sources.

What I learned about this fruit is that it is a good material for carving beautiful flowers! The persimmon rose garnishes could be amazing addition to a fruit dislay. They are bright, absolutely edible and delicious. If you are a fruit carving artist do not ignor this fruit.

Live Class 'New Year Fruit Arrangement'

>>  12/28/2015

new year fruit arrangement japanese style
The symbols of the arrangement:
lime for bamboo,
apple fans for the fan
pomegranates for Daruma eyes.

In December 2015 I participated in Ikebana exhibition in Yuzhno city. It was a New Year themed floral event with many wonderful ikebana arrangements made in traditional Japanese style. I gave a Live show how to make a fruit arrangement using the traditional colors of new year ikebana Kadomatsu.
Limes symbolize bamboo, pomegranates imitate Daruma eyes and apple carving in a shape of fan means paper red fan usually added to the traditional new year Ikebana arrangements.

Watch the video of my class where I show how to arrange the fruit Ikebana.

Fruit Cakes

>>  4/29/2013

Dear friends,

I am back to blogging after vacation. I took a rest to gain power before "watermelon season'" will start. I hope to have lot of job in May and after.

No watermelons do not mean no clients. Fruit towers and fruit cake displays are great ideas for fruit business. By the way, if you want to start fruit carving business, here is a book about that.

Budget Fruit Display

>>  6/14/2012

Sometime I am asked by customers to make fruit displays on budget. This time it was urgent work. I was given by a set of fruits to make a quick display for children.

I got:
1 small watermelon
2 oranges
3 apples
3 kiwi
some black and green grapes.

I made apple flowers and zig-zag kiwi and oranges. Zig-zag cut method was really in help here (it's the quick and on-budget method :)). Apple flower is also a good choice for a budget display because you can make 2 flowers from one apple. I arranged apple flowers bouquet on a watermelon vase using wooden sticks.

As for tools, the set of 3 carving knives is perfect here.

Simple Fruit Carving Arrangement With Apples and Oranges. Friut Fan

>>  3/26/2011

Today I will show how to make a simple fruit display using apples and orange. Very simple but effective arrangement. Take your knife and come along with me.

Check up my tutorials. Free download!

Fruit Fan

To arrange fruits like the one on the picture I use a special plate with pins. The pins provide a secure construction. The plate makes a fruit arrangement  trasportable. I use the pined plate for making 'Take Out' fruit displays.

You will need:
1 orange
2 red apples
1 green apple
1 apple for a base
some dark grapes
Toothpicks and bamboo sticks

Step 1
Prepare the following centerpices:
orange lollypop - 5 pcs
apple flower - 4 pcs
apple leaf - 5 pcs

Orange lollypop, apple flower and leaf carved out of green apple

Step 2.
Set an apple on the pins. The apple will serve a base to fix the pieces on it.

The apple serves as a base

Step 3.
Fix the orange lollypops. Pin them into the apple.

Orange lollypops make the upper level of the fan

Step 4.
Fix the bamboo sticks with the apple flowers arranging them in a shape of fan.

The apple flowers make the medium level of the fruit fan

Step 5.
Add the apple leaves to the lower level.

The green apple leaves add some color to the fruit display

Step 6.
Fill the plate with fruits.
Party fruit buffet is served!

Peacock From a Melon

>>  11/04/2010

This lesson was made for my carving class.

To make a peacock like this one you take a melon, some grapes and an orange. A regular knive is the only tool you need for carving it.

Scratch a melon in a shape of your bird and cut it out.

Make feathers with a bamboo skewer and some grapes and orange slice. Insert feathers into the melon to complete a peacock train.

Set your bird in a garden. Make flowers from a pepper and callas from cabbage.

This post about the Melon Peacock is participating in the Artsy-Craftsy-December-2010 Challenge
