Christmas Food Serving Ideas

>>  12/24/2019

Hello my Friends!

I got inspiration for a few Christmas food serving ideas. They are three different "Christmas trees" snacks as Christmas tree sandwich, snack tower and Christmas tree platter.

I am happy to show you my new  kitchen toys - a glass piramide for serving appetizers (Durobor.com) and wooden cutting board that I shopped at a local Christmas handmad fair (I felt in love with it. What a girl does need a cutting board to be happy :))

Oh I forgot about a tiny cutter that makes the tiny stars! Remind me to show you the gadget in my next post.

Christmas Tree Made With Potatos

>>  12/19/2016

What is this?

christmas tree with vegetable

This is my Christmas tree made for the city Christmas Trees Event.

I used potatos and cocktail straws to build this art object.

Why potatos? Because this is my style.

Got a diploma and a gift certificate to a Spa

I am interviewed by a local media

caring for the tree

"Why potatos? How did you come to this idea?"

"Well, this is my style. I like working with the live materials. A month ago I did some decorating works, and been asked to create something special with using potatos. Then I created the potatos modules and used them for the table flower centerpieces. I thought that the construction units could be a cool idea for building the other objects. So I gave it a try, and here is the Christmas tree."

6 hours of work. 6 kilos of potatos. More than 200 straws used.

Live Class 'New Year Fruit Arrangement'

>>  12/28/2015

new year fruit arrangement japanese style
The symbols of the arrangement:
lime for bamboo,
apple fans for the fan
pomegranates for Daruma eyes.

In December 2015 I participated in Ikebana exhibition in Yuzhno city. It was a New Year themed floral event with many wonderful ikebana arrangements made in traditional Japanese style. I gave a Live show how to make a fruit arrangement using the traditional colors of new year ikebana Kadomatsu.
Limes symbolize bamboo, pomegranates imitate Daruma eyes and apple carving in a shape of fan means paper red fan usually added to the traditional new year Ikebana arrangements.

Watch the video of my class where I show how to arrange the fruit Ikebana.

Soap carving New Year decoration

I just started with a home decorating. The exhibition took all my time the last weeks and gave me no chance for shopping. But it did not stop me. I got an idea for these adorable soap carving new year decorations.

The decorations are made very easy. The simple soap carving details are attached to a transparent file cover with a super glue. I am in love with the weightless design, the ornaments look so nice on my table new year tree. Do these ornaments sound homey and vintage? And tasty? :-)

Christmas Fruit Garnishes

>>  12/20/2013

Today I was invited to Sakhalin TV to show how to make a Christmas fruit decoration.

I explaned how to make a fruit bouquet and a mini fruit garnish for drinks, using simple cut methods.

The class was taken at "Chocolate" cafe, a cozy place with warm interior and tasty coffee&handmade sweets.

The TV show will be on air later. But I prepared a photo tutorial for my blog on making a mini fruit garnish for cocktails. You can read it right now by scrolling the page down! :))

You can also watch the last year Christams TV show, where I explained how to do a Christmas tree of fruit and sweets. Though it's in Russian,  I am sure you will get the method.

You will need:
small mandarin
red apple

Martini glass

paring knife, scissors, toothpicks.

Instruction (click the images to enlarge):
1. Cut a small mandarin in half
2. Gently separate the skin of the flesh and turn the skin inside out.
3. Don't worry about the broken skin. Just cut off the damaged parts or make a zigzag cut with scissors.
4. You will get a nice mandarin star.
5. Cut 4 thin slices of the red apple.
6. Insert a toothpick into the slices to attache all sclices together. Make a fan of them.
7. Pin the mandarin star on the top and insert other toothpick close to the first toothpick to secure the fruit garnish. Use the gap between the toothpicks to set the garnish on the glass.

Pin a small grape or a berry on to the final garnish to hide a sharp tip of the toothpick.
This fruit garnish perfectly fits a martini glass.

New Year apple decorations made with Triangle "Gourmet" carving tools

Would you like to have something special for your New Year party food? Why not try these apple garnishes looking like new year sphere decorations?

You will need:

Red apples,
decorative picks,
a nice ribbon.

How-to:

Take a decorative bamboo pick (various cute picks and skewers can be found at Restaurantware.com) and attach a nice ribbon knot to it.

Make the pick shorter and pin into a red apple.

Red apple looks like a New Year sphere decoration now!

You can stop at the point or add a little carving work to the apple, it will look much impressive then.
For making the patterns on apples I used riffle cutters from Triangle carving tool set "Gourmet" .

3D Chocolate - Christmas Tree, Hearts and Eggs - DIY

>>  12/01/2012

I have good news.
1. Some of the Carving Contest's winners have recieved their prizes.
2. It is December and it means Christmas Rush is on.

I have a big hope that all winners will get the prizes before December 31. I wish they can use the things for  the Holiday food presentation.

As for me, I have got new toys too :) I try the new things out. One of them is Lekue silicone mold for 3D chocolate.

Chocolate made in Lekue 3D molds

You need:

Lekue silicone mold (Christmas Tree, LoveMold)
Chocolate (milk chocolate, dark chocolate, orange, green, white and any),
Sugar decorations for cakes (sugar balls, flaked coconut, sprinkle mix).

Method:

Melt chocolate in a microwave/water bath
I use water bath.
Fill the mold with melted chocolate and spread the chocolate by shaking the mold. When you shake the mold  you make air ball go out and the chcolate surface becoming smooth and shiny.

Put some sugar decoration on the chocolate surface.
Or you can go other way. Draw an ornament on the mold using a bright chocolate, let it freeze, and after that fill the mold with dark chocolate.

Let the chocolate freeze.
Gently demold chocolates and build the sculptures by bringing the parts together.
