Winter Sports In Fruits. Olympics 2014

It's Sport theme again.

Fruit platter with Olympic symbol and sculptures of a figure skater a snowboard rider, inspired by logos of winter sports. The sculptures have small detail, that made the white figures look intresting.

I made this display today for a sport theme party.

In my point of view, snowboard and figure skating are the most exciting sport shows.

Other reason why I chose those sports for my display is that I myself tried them. I did skating and skiing a lot when I was a schoolgirl.

Now I prefer swimming and yoga. And I am learning a dance of Shiva at my yoga class these days.

Recently there are lot of snow around the world. This is a good oportunity to start a winter sport for pleasure!

Chip-n-Dale Fruit Idea

Chip-n-Dale fruti idea

Chip and Dale, the famous Disney's characters, jumped into a fruit tray.

This is my latest project made for 1 year bithday of a boy named Artiom (or Tyomka for short). This Chip-n-Dale fruit display is a perfect idea for baby shower as well.

There are fruit sculptures of Chip and Dale playing football (soccer) in a fruit football field. The fly Zipper sits on a watermelon and watches the game.

Materials:

The scultures of Chip, Dale and Zipper are made of apples.

Chip is wearing Indiana Jones hat made of pumpkin.

Dale is wearing a Hawaiian shirt with carrot flowers.

Zipper the fly is made of small green apples and a carrot.

The football is carved in a small green apple.

Football nets carved of pumpkin.

Tools:

Loop tools for sculpting the Indiana hat and the football net out of pumpkin.

It's Going To Be A Crafty Year

How are you doing, my friends?

Do you have a feeling it's going to be a special year?

I have not blogged in January, so you could think I had nothing to write about.

Actually I started this year working. I did fruit displays for weddings and babyshowers. Below I share the top displays made in January.

I take advantage of having a massive portfolio. Together with my clients we combine details of the different displays to create a new one. For instance, I have a sample fruit plate for babyshower, and just change watermelon image and cute fruit sculptures according to client's likes. Tell the truth, this approach made me lazy because I don't create new things.

Maybe this method in not bad for making money, but certainly it's not good for an artist, what I consider myself to be.

I have a desire to create different things in the year 2014.

Other thing that took my time in January was moving to a new apartment, my OWN home.

I dived into organizing a cozy space there. I have some ideas about decorating the room like making a frame collage for my paintings, pillows and so on.

So it is going to be a crafty year!

Do you know this little boy named Pocoyo? He is a main character of the Spanish-British pre-school animated television series.

Pocoyo was a theme of a party of 1-year-old client of mine.
The characters of the film carved in fruits, Pato the duck is crafted from oranges and carrot,
Elly the elephant is made of red apples. Pocoyo the boy is carved in watermelon.

Christmas Fruit Garnishes

Today I was invited to Sakhalin TV to show how to make a Christmas fruit decoration.

I explaned how to make a fruit bouquet and a mini fruit garnish for drinks, using simple cut methods.

The class was taken at "Chocolate" cafe, a cozy place with warm interior and tasty coffee&handmade sweets.

Christmas Fruit Garnish

Tutorial

mini fruit garnish for Christmas drinks

You will need:
small mandarin
red apple

Martini glass

paring knife, scissors, toothpicks.

Instruction (click the images to enlarge):
1. Cut a small mandarin in half
2. Gently separate the skin of the flesh and turn the skin inside out.
3. Don't worry about the broken skin. Just cut off the damaged parts or make a zigzag cut with scissors.
4. You will get a nice mandarin star.
5. Cut 4 thin slices of the red apple.
6. Insert a toothpick into the slices to attache all sclices together. Make a fan of them.
7. Pin the mandarin star on the top and insert other toothpick close to the first toothpick to secure the fruit garnish. Use the gap between the toothpicks to set the garnish on the glass.

Pin a small grape or a berry on to the final garnish to hide a sharp tip of the toothpick.
This fruit garnish perfectly fits a martini glass.

Fruit Mosaic Technique. Olimpic Symbol and Logo

The fruit displays were done for Christmas party of Midglen Logistics Sakhalin company.

I was asked to create a fruit buffet in olympic theme. The design should also express a corporate spirit.
So I suggested the olimpic symbol for a big fruit platter and company logo for watermelon carving design.

I used a mosaic technique for the olympic platter and a big fruit medal with logo image.

No special tools required.

Sakhalin island is snowing again. And again, I work.

The last weekend we had a snowstorm. I have written before that I work in any weather.
This time I was engaged for two days with fruit carving decorating.

I will post the fruit display in my next article. Today I'd like to share photos I took while walking to work.

Carving Art Exhibition 2013

In the end of November my sudio took a part in a big food event. Within Sakhalin Food Show-2013 we had a fruit carving exhibition, there my students and I presented our art.

At the food show we met colleaugues from Carving Academy (Moscow).

I am happy to share with you pictures of my team and our works.
