"Four Seasons. Frozen Moment" Exhibition Dec 2014 - Jan 2015

I have really great news, my friends. WE HAVE DONE IT! My friend Marina and me are having a personal exhibition at Sakhalin Art Museum this month.

Four Seasons. Frozen Moment.

This exhibition is a result of the partnership with a painter and a crafting person and my friend Marina Puzik. Four seasons are reflected with the paintings and installations made of various natural materials. The exhibition opened on December 23, 2014 and will last till January 26, 2015.

I presented long term fruit and vegetable installations and soap carving artworks. Some fruit details will be changed during the exposition time. I am going to surprise visitors with the variability of the display.

Here are the photos of the opening. Just would like to notice that none of trees was killed, we collected broken wood after a hurricane.

Halloween Treat: Alien's Skull, Owl, Candy Corn Flower, Finger Cookies

Breakfast with a witch

Are you curious to know what a city witch has for a breakfast? Then you are invited to my home.

Today I have some fingers and aliens to treat you my dears. And a cool refreshing green potion.

Welcome to my kitchen. You will learn a super-easy method of cookie's decorating that you can use for making Halloween treats.
On the pictures you see ginger cookies in the shape of fingers (do you like the nail style?) and green alien's skulls.

I used a ginger cookie recipe to make the Halloween cookies as on the pictures. This time I designed  aliens, candy corn flowers, owl, mushroom, pumpkin and evil hearts.
What makes the cookies look bright is the glaze icing of yelk.

Glaze icing recipe:

You need 1 egg. Separate the yellow yelk from the white yelk. We need the yellow part.

Add few drops of food coloring into the yellow yelk and mix well.

If you need glaze icing in more colors just divide the yelk in several plates.

 How to make Alien's Skull cookie

1. Use the cookie cutter to cut a round detail.
2.  Cut off the details as shown in the picture #2 to shape a skull.
3. Use the small details to make eyes and grin.
4. Prepare the yelk glaze icing.
5. With a finger or a brush, apply the glaze icing on to the skull.
6. Place the eyes and grin on to the skull as shown in the picture #6.
Bake the cookies for 7-10 minutes at 180*C.

How to make Corn Flower

1. Use the flower cookie cutters, a big and a small one, to cut out the flowers.
2. Cut the small flower in 6 pieces.
3. Place the small details as shown in the picture #3.
4. Paint the flower in yellow and orange with the glaze icing. Bake the cookies for 7-10 minutes at 180*C. The white center is applied to the baked cookie and it the white yelk whipped with sugar powder.

Fruit Carving Art For Blue And White Themed Wedding

Blue roses and decorative heart on watermelon

This is a detail of a fruit display I made for a White and Blue themed wedding.
The watermelon is garnished with blue roses carved of daikon radish and colored in blue.
The names Sergey and Natalie are framed in a decorative heart.

Flower Wedding Monogram In Fruit Display

Tiny white flowers for initials, Chinese cabbage for chrysanthemums and daikon for roses.

C and M initials are carved and decorated with flowers to complete a wedding monogram.

 

This is a very special design done for Crystal Themed wedding. Maria, the bride, said that they were going to have several decorations made of crystal, as crystal broche at her bridal bouquet and crystal initials on top of wedding cake.

I used the idea of crystals for the watermelon design. The tiny flowers attached to the letters look like crystals.  The special thing about the design is the white flowers. They change color when lighten with colorful disco lights.

Family Tree For Wedding Decoration



This tree carved on watermelon was specially designed for the wedding of Andrey and Veronica.

 

New ideas are found in the fruit arrangement. A tree with hearts of carrot as a pattern for wedding watermelon carving. And a nice looking and a very romantic pumpkin light with carrot inserts.

The rose medallion design was originated by carving artists from Japan. The design in the photo is my adaptation, I added swirls between roses which look great and do not overload the design.

Dove birds are carved of daikon radish. Compare the dove's sculpture with my first doves made in 2012.

Color Challenge

As I mentioned in the title, there was a turquois themed event. To match the color challenge, green roses with a blue center were added to a display. The colors gradation was a right decision, as I found later at the site, the gradation's idea was used for some pieces of the head table decoration.

Wedding Fruit Platter Decoration

I decorated the wedding fruit platter with a boat carved out of a squash. It's filled with raspberry and red currant, and garnished with the exotic frangipani flowers.

Vases, boats and vessels carved of vegetables look very good at the fruit platters. They add more space to the platter and make 3-dimencional look.

Beach Themed Wedding

 

Bird sculptures of daikon radish keep leading, they are the popular decorations for wedding fruit arrangements. The heart line on the watermelon skin is carved with nice wavy details.
